Bring Peace

Dr. Hans Engel asks:

Is war justified if:

Your country is being attacked by the enemy.

You have absolute evidence that your enemy is about to attack you.

You think that your enemy is likely to attack you.

You presume that your enemy may one day attack you.

Your population has outgrown your adequate land and you assume you have the right to land since your neighbor needs it less.

Your neighbor has assets that you want.

Your neighbor’s (laws, politics, religions) are wrong and you have the responsibility to correct their error.

In our lives we face options. Some are rational and some irrational and there are some that no wise person can answer with certainty.

What is your opinion regarding a “justifiable war”?

Good question! Drop in and let him know what you think. This very question has been bandied about quite extensively in the last few years … now’s our chance to have our say …

A – Maze – Ing!

April 20th, 2006

Dr. Bob has posted Part V of his series: Medical Coding: Compliance Penalties. We’ve been through three mazes, waltzed with a gorilla … and now find ourselves cornered by a Rottweiler.

Dr. Bob gives a few examples to round out the picture:

  • In another case, in February of 1999, 37 armed, flak-jacketed agents carried out a Medicare raid on East Tennessee Woods Memorial Hospital, a 72-bed hospital in Eastern Tennessee. The invading army of armed federal agents stomped into the hospital, trampling through sterile areas, forced employees into a small room and held them.
  • In another case, at Dr. Danny Westmoreland’s office in West Virginia, three armed federal agents invaded and held everyone at gunpoint, including the physician, his wife, patients, and children.
  • “Welcome to health care in the new millenium.”

Man! Am I glad I went into Medical Informatics (Health Information Technology) instead of Health Information Management

Doctor Bob over on The Doctor is In is giving us lessons on how those poor MD type Dudes and Dudettes make out their bills. This is not easy reading … and it’s not for the faint hearted! This is “bust your brains” sort of nasty!

As much I hate the idea, I understand more and more why so many docs are going for hospitalist careers … getting a paycheck sure beats dealing with Government regulations and Insurance claims!

Those of you who are brave and daring … sit in on Doctor Bob’s class:

    The Maze – Part 1

    The Maze – Part 2

    The Maze – Part 3

    The Maze – Part 4

    The Maze – Part 5

Want to see what sort of dreams Dr. Scan Man has? Delve into the mind of a sleep deprived radiologist (who later overslept) at your own risk!!!

As a side note … I honestly can not understand what would be wrong with that Chicken Soup … 0.o

    We Have a New Blogger!

    April 15th, 2006

Let me introduce you to Dr. Hans Engel, author of the Bring Peace Blog.

“My #%*&@# is prettier, older, more expensive, stronger… than yours” . Psychologists call it penis envy.

Desire shifts from beneficial to harmful. Most of the time envy is petty, mean and of little significance. On the other hand, envy can lean to extremes: “My religion is better than yours!” or even “My God is greater than your God”. This horror has led to many wars in the past three millenia. Other wars are the result of other envies: property, skin color, agricultural skills, water supply, hunger, language.

Excerpted from Wishes, April 14, 2006.

    Of himself, Dr. Engel writes:

“My goal? Steps toward world peace, one of the greatest challenges mankind can face. These words are useless if we do not have an open mind, moral standards and are willing to accept faults and weaknesses of others.”

Dr. Engel’s blog is a real gem. Please go over and look around, read his posts, drop him a comment. Don’t forget to blogroll him! I predict some lively and cogent discussions on Dr. Engel’s blog!

Dr. Hebert – A Scalpel and a Prayer

    April 2nd, 2006

    Michael C. Hebert, MD – Journal – A Scalpel and a Prayer

“We are having trouble getting prayer consultants. The surgeon said he won’t operate until he gets one. Ever since that study came out showing that prayer decreases post-operative mortality by 39%, no surgeon will operate without the prescribed quantity of prayers.”

You’ve probably heard about the recent study – they believe that prayer not only doesn’t help the recovery of those who’ve had heart surgery, and in fact, in some cases, it seems to even make things worse!

Well, hand that piece of news to Dr. Hebert, give him some space to exercise his imagination … and what you’ll end up with is another wonderful, engaging, well written story!

This is a “must-read,” “don’t miss it” tale by someone whom I’m beginning to believe should have been a writer …
