Grand Rounds is UP!

October 2nd, 2007

For those of you who don’t know, Dr. Rob has had one heck of a week. His database at the old blog location suffered a major stroke this week, and Dr. Rob began to develop a very serious case of telephone ear from spending so much time talking to his tech support.

And if that wasn’t enough, he had Grand Rounds to prepare for today, his desktop vanished at work, and last night, all of the graphics on his blog began to vanish in his browser … one by one …

Dr. Rob has indeed been living a bad comedy in the last week or so!

With all of that, he has turned out one of the most amazing Grand Rounds I’ve ever seen. The entire thing is set in rhyme! Even if medicine is not your thing, you’d be missing out if you didn’t take a look at Rob’s pièce de résistence!

Meet Dr. Nick Edwards of the NHS

September 27th, 2007

A few days ago, Dr. Edwards contacted me about a book he’d written. Since his name was new to me, I went to Google and did a search, and this is what I came up with:

Wednesday August 29, 2007
The Guardian

From its title, In Stitches: The Highs and Lows of Life as an A&E Doctor, you might expect it to be a book about medical hackwork. But while there are comically callous anecdotes and references to medical slang (a fracture of the fourth metatarsal is a “Rooney” and patients are defined by their TTT - tattoos to teeth - ratio) much of it is written with tenderness and compassion.

The author, who uses the pseudonym Dr Nick Edwards, has an overriding purpose in writing the book. In Stitches is an attempt to explain why an increasing number of doctors, nurses and other health service workers are fed up and disillusioned with the direction that New Labour is taking the NHS.

Read the rest of the article at The Guardian.

I’m not posting this just for the sake my readers from across the pond … but for us here in the States, too. Whenever I read about the things going on in the NHS over in the UK, I wonder if that’s where we’re headed. We could learn from what’s happening to them.

The book appears to be entertaining … and educational. I’m looking forward to reading it.

I’d like to ask my blog friends to please give Dr. Edwards a mention. I’m awfully glad that I ran across our other “Doc Authors.” I’ve seriously enjoyed their books, and have been enriched by getting to know them, too! We’d be a lot poorer without having gotten to know Dr. Schwab, Dr. Gordon, and Dr. Charles.

Now … if we can just get Dr. Nick to start blogging … >;o)

Moving Day

September 3rd, 2007

movingday.jpgAll of the Blogsplot.net blogs will be changing servers in the next few days. I hope to make the transition as a smooth as possible, but there could be a few hiccups along the way. I won’t post on any of my blogs again until I’m certain that the new DNS numbers have propagated across the internet.

Emails might not work temporarily. I can be reached at a.moofie@gmail.com for the interim.

Those of you looking for Sarah’s blog should be aware that I’m in the dog house in a big way. I thought she had moved all of her blogs over to her new server, but she hadn’t. They’ve fallen victim to my over-zealous “click-happiness” … :o(

Hang on, and we’ll have addresses for you as soon as poor Sarah is able to fix things at her end.

In the meantime, check out something that I’ve just discovered: Revolution Health. It rivals WebMD! I’ll write more about it from the new server.

Thoughtful Bloggers

August 12th, 2007

JMB was given a rather nice award by Lady MacLeod from over at Braveheart does the Maghreb.. It’s called the Thoughtful Blogger Award, and it was originally created by Writer’s Reviews. Here is the information behind the award:

Thoughtful Blogger Award

The Thoughtful Blogger Award

For those who answer blog comments, emails, and make their visitors feel at home on their blogs. For the people who take others feelings into consideration before speaking out and who are kind and courteous. Also for all of those bloggers who spend so much of their time helping others bloggers design, improve, and fix their sites. This award is for those generous bloggers who think of others.

While I have no problem understanding why JMB got the award, I’m still amazed that she chose to pass it on to me. I haven’t been in here much in the last few months, although I’ve wanted to be. I guess JMB is one of those special people who read intentions rather than actions …

Thank you, dear heart!

Now … for people to pass it on to …

First of all … I’ve got to pass it on to Vijay. Yes, I know! I always hit Vijay when I get something like this, however this isn’t just to pull his chain, he really deserves this. He has a very friendly blog, is always helping people, and always interacts with everyone who visits him. If anyone deserves this, Vijay does.

Another person who comes to mind immediately is Chrysalis Angel. Those of you who don’t know her - are missing out. She’s one of the kindest, sweetest and most thoughtful people I know. Take a look for yourself.

Almost afraid to do this … because I never know what the heck he’s going to do once he gets the ball in his corner of the court (Llamas, anyone? *blink*) … but Dr. Rob deserves this award, too! He’s not only courteous, helpful, and friendly, he’s also better than Prozac if you need an uplift!

Cathy is another one who really deserves this. She spends herself selflessly for so many causes, and is always there for her blog friends. When she deleted her blog a while back, I panicked. I couldn’t imagine what the blogosphere would be like without her …

And finally, Dr. Anonymous … he’s not only friendly and helpful, he’s also made a home for Blogaholics Anonymous! Another thing I’ve got to say that he’s pretty good about answering personal emails … with personal questions in them. I still appreciate his answer to one I sent him a year ago this month. :o)

I could send a ton more of these out … because there are a lot of you who deserve it. I’ll hold off so that my tagees have someone they can tag, too. That’s the hardest part of getting an award … :o(

Before I quit … I’d like to give Vijay yet another award. I think I’ll call it the “Super Duper Wicked Busy Blogger Award” … and here’s why:

BUSY Vijay!

I dropped in on Vijay with Skype one day, and lookit what I saw!
Vijay with a telephone at each ear!!!
Now that, my friends, gives a whole new meaning to multitasking!!!
