All Blogged Up: A Moof’s Tale

Harlequin Fall

A pallid sun sets behind a conflagration of slowly crisping leaves,
which emanate an agony of color against the inky miasma of encroaching darkness.

The call of a bird - a stark, bone dry cry against the bleakness of the fading sky,
startles the senses.

Another night spreads its icy fingers across the landscape,
drawing away warmth like yesterday’s abandoned dreams.

The warmth and green of endless afternoons underneath a gilded orb
belong to another world, another place … another reality.
The endless … has ended. The orb flickers … fades … dims …

… and dies.

Colors fade … silent cries of summers gone
echo vainly against the cold, velvet gloom.

Harlequin fall …
masking the encroaching lifeless sea of white barren torment.
You are the bright deluder … the foul harbinger of hiemal barenness,
concealing the passing of summer’s mild mirth
with your delusory radiance.

Fair and false, false and fair … fall.

Beautiful, Moofie. When do you leave camp?

  3. rlbates UNITED STATES Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0 Says:

Very lovely, Moof! Thanks for sharing.

Angel, thank you. Photography is a favorite for me. I used to do a lot of fancy stuff when all I had was a 35 mm way back when, now I just take what strikes me. There’s a lot of stuff to shoot if you’re watching for it.

TK … thank you, my friend. I will have a few days free from school between October 25 and 28, because I’ll be in between courses between that Thursday and Sunday … I intend to close up the camp during that time. It takes several days of cleaning and driving between home and camp.

If I had my druthers, I’d never leave. *sigh*

Dr. Bates … thank you! You’re also very kind for having left me a comment both on here, and on FaceBook for the same free-verse. :o)

I’m so jealous! One of these days, I’m going up to the northeastern US for the fall season. Someday….

Superb. What the mind knows the eye sees. And you are a techie too, for being able to do all these neat tricks in your posts.

  7. Moof Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.7 Says:

Dr. Anonymous … plan on next fall! You can come to camp. Son is a chef … I promise to make you fat! ;o)

SmallTownDoc, I’m not a techie yet, I’m still studying hard. That is just a little HTML table, and a bit of CSS. If you would like templates like that to use on your blog, let me know. I’d be glad to cut/paste them into an email, and show you how to use them! :o)

    Beautiful words and pictures, Moof.
The undercurrent of bitterness towards all things heimal* is almost palpable :o)

*That’s a new word learnt today. Thanks.

Ah Vijay, my dear friend, yes, you picked up on that, eh? Hidden behind the versification is a definite streak of acrimony. It’s what I dream about at night, lately, as things cool off.

I’ve always wondered, as I look at the trees in the fall, how death can be so pretty …

Those photos are amazing Moof. What a beautiful place to be enjoying the Fall Colours. And the words, exquisite.
    regards

JMB, yes, it is a beautiful place. When the leaves begin to turn, sometimes it’s haunting … like in the mornings, when there’s a mist on the water.

But … in spite of fall’s beauty, I still like it much better in the summer. We’ve been running a little kerosene heater in here, off and on, and except for some unseasonably (and wonderfully) warm days last week, we need a little electric heater for showering. It’s always painful to see another camp season come to a close.

    Moof,

What a fantastic spot…looks like places not too far from me, actually. Fall is beautiful, but the downside is the nasty winter that often follows!
