Is Moof Playing Hide and Seek?
Although I’m sure it must seem that way, I’m not playing hide-and-seek, honest! I thought I would write a post and let you know what has been going on, before you all give up on me.
Less than a month ago, we moved home from camp. The weekend that we moved home, I had a final to take in my Health Information Processes class, and a new class to begin - Advanced PC Applications with Lab. The first week of the course, we were told that we had until this Sunday (Nov. 26) to complete a rather involved project in Excel. We also had something I haven’t had to deal with up until now - live online classes two nights per week. I chose my project theme, received permission to use it, and tackled it with enthusiasm. The graphic you see on this post is the graphic I designed for enhancing the Documentation sheet. I chose “Dietary Values for the Renally Impaired.” I worked on it every available minute, and I’m ready to pass in my “chef d’œvre” tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I had to the get the house up to speed for Thanksgiving - not an easy task. As it turned out, my son Dougie and I worked feverishly the last week before Thanksgiving trying to finish unpacking and cleaning. We made it - by a squeak! We had a quiet Thanksgiving celebration this year - only 7 of us. My daughter, son-in-law, and grandbabies were not with us, and neither were Daein and Sarah. They were all missed!
Those were the major things. Concurrently … there were (are) other goings-on …
Dougie has accepted a job, and is working with a fellow from church … so it looks as if I’ve lost my chef. I guess my poor husband is going to have to put up with my cooking again … ;o)
Daein has been job hunting since he got out of college, and may be signing on with an Israeli company which could use his Molecular Biology skills … it would involve a lot of travel. We’ll see if he goes with that one or not …
I’ve been staying in touch with my dear friend, Dr. Engel … who is recovering from his stroke. He’s making great strides, although I’m not sure that he realizes how much better he’s doing. He’s had a nightmarish few months. I hope that he comes back to his blogging soon.
And for myself - I still can’t believe I actually did this - but this past Tuesday, I changed my major. The two consecutive classes, which I took just before the class I’m taking now, were my first two “HIT specific” classes - all of the other classes had either been “Gen Eds,” or courses which support the major (medical terminology, anatomy, etc.) … so I finally got a good taste of what HIT’s do on a day by day basis. It caused me to realize that, although Health Information Technology is a health informatics course, it’s not what I’m looking for. A degree in this course would have sent me into the back room of some hospital or other medical facility, where I would have scrutinized patient’s charts for errors and omissions, entered diagnostic and procedure codes for insurance companies, and gone slowly, but surely, mad. This wasn’t what I thought I was buying into.
After speaking with a course advisor last Tuesday, I was directed toward CIS - Computer Information Systems. Once I have a BS in CIS, I can take a certificate course for Medical Informatics, and arrive at my destination in that manner. Roundabout - but at least, going this route, I will get there! Once the course I’m taking at the moment is over, I’ll begin with “Architecture and Operating Systems with Lab.” This course delves into the workings of Windows, Unix and Linux. I guess I have a bit to learn, because in my mind, Unix and Linux are basically the same systems …
And now, home from camp, the initial unpacking and cleaning for the holidays over and done with, settling into my new major, kids starting new jobs … it looks as if I’m just about ready to settle back into my regular blogging schedule.
And how have all of you been??? :o)

Moofie! We were getting worried about you. People have told me tha “IS” is where it’s at. HIT is interesting, but I believe you’re doing it the right way. You’ll get there. Great graphic! Well done.
Me? I finally took your advice (and everyone else’s) and hosted Grand Rounds this past Tuesday. It was a lot more work than I expected, but I think everything went ok.
Finally, I found a new blogger - did a promotional post, and people went over there and said hello. Neat experience all around. Hope you’re able to post more soon…

Dr. Anon … thank you. I’m all in one piece.
HIT was a bit stuffy, actually. I’m far more interested in creating medical databases that are user friendly than chasing you docs around for missing signatures on charts, and memorizing IDC-9 codes. That’s the direction I expected to be heading in … now it is the direction I’m heading in.
Dr. Anon … I’m sure that you did a fantastic job. I went over and took a look - I hope to have the time to explore some of those links. I wish I hadn’t missed it as it was happening.
Your new blogger is quite interesting! Can’t wait to get to know her better! :o)
Thanks for stopping in, Dr. A.

Welcome back Moof! :D
Medical informatics is a hot field! We need more people to take the “computer stuff” and meld it with the medical field :)
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)

Hey Moof..so glad to hear from you, know you have been busy..but my goodness..WHEW!! maybe you can get a little breathing room..notice I said maybe:):), not too much new here, still no job, there is nothing out there at my level, in my field and I really don’t want to start over at the bottom..too old, too knowledgable and just too hopping mad over the whole thing so think I will not be going back to the Hotel business..their lose. So what am I doing..well went back to an old love..I started doing my custom jewelry and art once again. You know I forgot just how much I missed it. I put up a page on my site if you would like to see just what I am doing, I have a few more to add this week..as far as the mess with Carol..well you guessed it the major politico run around, I really did’t expect too much more..oh well we are still working it. My son is thinking engagement ring for Christmas..we will see how that goes. I hope everything else is good for you and gald you are getting where you want to be in your courses to go further, faster. Take care of yourself and never worry…those of us who know and care about you will always be patient, knowing that when you have time you’ll drop us a line and or visit..take care..m

In the fullness of your life, I can’t fathom how you have time to blog at all.

Poor little Moofie! Absolutely nothing to do for weeks! Just nothing lounge all day and nights, watching TV for twelve hours every day. No one has every learned how to cook even brewing tea, Daean is so stupid that can’t learn the first knowledge in science that he can get an income to get $ 25 for a year. But poor Moof has hoping to hear as to something known as computer knowledge. Poor, poor Moofie…..

Moof:
So glad to see you are back in the blogging world.
I missed you sooooo much! I can’t imagine why you haven’t been around. It is not like you’ve been THAT busy *LOL* ;)
I am happy to hear you changed majors to something more suitable to your goals.Better to find out now then when you were done with the degree and out there working. Your new major sounds much more interesting.
You must be glad that the boys are finding their way. Still, to lose your chef? *sigh* I can have Dave whip you up some food and express mail it up there if you need! :)
I was busy too….viral stomach bug in the house. Sister and brother-in-law visiting for a week…lots of siteseeing and what not. It was very nice to have them here. Anyway, now it’s time to get ready for Christmas! Oh…did I just say that outloud????

I’m worn out from reading what you’ve been up to.
Good to see you back! :)

I’d stopped by a few times during your hiatus — sampling some of your links to “the Spiritual Realm.” I’ll continue to do so if you don’t mind….
Thanks.

Hello sweet Moofie Dear … I’m saying hello from my new house. Not quite unpacked …but … we’re here and settling … it is so wonderful.
I have missed you!

I am interested in your project about “Dietary Values for the Renally Impaired.” as my husband has renal insufficiency and was told last week to limit his salt and protein because his creatinine levels had gone up to 2.6 recently. I wondered if you presentation would be useful in designing a meal program for him. I would be interested in seeing it. One problem I use a MacIntosh OS 10.4.8 so I don’t know if I could read it unless it was as a pdf.
We are floundering as we are having to deal with this while traveling.

Good heavens, changing majors. Can I do that? I’d like to be a metaphysical philosopher. I could still sit in my office, and patients could come to me with complaints like: “Yesterday I went to hit a nail with a hammer and I couldn’t do it because I couldn’t convince myself that the nail exists.” I could help people with that.
But I really can’t see myself spending another day of my life in school. I liked school a lot, but it doesn’t seem appropriate for this stage in my life. I hope you do well in your new major. Hospital bills are getting longer and we need mighty minds like yours to make sure we are getting $14 for each aspirin we prescribe. Good luck to you.

Moof, Just checking in to see if you are doing ok….
:)

You are obviously very busy, and busy is good, especially if it is something with meaning to you, as what you are doing obviously does. Anyway, it’s good to be back over this side and in touch with friends again on a more ongoing basis.
Your friend,
Ian

[…] It’s a good thing, I guess. It’s making me come up for air for a few minutes! I passed in my last class project, and got 100% on it! I was delighted. The second half of the course calls for another huge project - this time in MS Access - a program I’ve never used before. Well, we were given two choices for project themes … however my professor surprised me by telling me that I can “continue” with the project I started in Excel. I was delighted, until I realized that Access is not intuitive, especially if you’ve never used a relational database before! I’ve had several 4 AM bedtimes … with 8 AM risings … to try to get on top of things on time to finish the project and pass it in. My kitchen is buried in dirty dishes! In the last couple of days, I’ve gotten on top of things a bit though - now I need to go through my inbox and answer about 100 emails … […]

Classmate X says that if you need any help, drop him a line. That “Architecture and Operating Systems with Lab” is a course he’s already taken. Maybe you two will end up in some of the same classes again!
Congratulations on the project grade, I hope some of the rest of your classes are easier on you. I do check in once in awhile and Sarah got me with the Christmas songs tag. I’m not sure if Chris has to take that Advanced PC Applications with Lab class, he’s already taken something similar but it didn’t involve live classes or projects. I don’t know how he’d handle something like that with his work schedule. Now that you’re both working for the same major this could get interesting!
Miss ya hon, check in soon.
