Blame Dr. Serani!

Dr. Deb has some neat eye twisters up today, and seeing them reminded me that I threatened promised to post some that my Mom showed me when I was a kid. This is one of them. It’s more of brain teaser than an eye twister though … :o)
Here’s the story on this one …
As many of you know, I’m at a camp on a nice little lake in southwestern Maine for a while. It’s been idyllic! The water is blue, the sky is blue, the trees are green, the fish are biting … and best of all - I’m far far far away from my home telephone!
Anyway, in all honesty, I have to admit that things aren’t quite as perfect as they seem. You see, we’re having a problem with our neighbors …
… in fact, it’s more than a problem … it’s a feud!
We painted all of our nice little camps green, because green is a pretty color. It’s easy on the eyes, and doesn’t put your brain into a panic when you look at it. Our neighbors painted theirs fire-engine red!!! Ever since then, those of us in the green camps have had to buy ibuprofen in bulk! That bright red just screams headache! We’ve been trying to get them to be reasonable, and paint their little camps white … or blue … or green … or something reasonable! But alas! They’ve been blinded to common sense! ( … and it’s no wonder! If I lived in one of those red camps, I’d be blind out of self defense!)
Now, we reasonable people with the good taste in colors who live in the nice green camps are the ones who own all of the lake front! In an effort to try to make our neighbors see the error of their ways, we want to, um, convince them to see things our way! We’ve decided that if we bar them from getting down to the lake, they may be more amenable to making a trip to the hardware store for a bit of paint … so that we can stop making trips to the drug store for a bit of eyesore relief!
That’s where all of you geniuses out there come in …
We need help building one long uninterrupted fence - no gates … or breaks … just one continuous fence - that will allow those of us with the green roofs to get to the lake, and keep those with the red roofs out!
We’re sincerely hoping that one of you is smart enough to help us out! The drug store has moved the ibuprofen to behind the counter, and has called the DEA on us … *blink!*
DON’T CLICK ME UNTIL YOU’VE TRIED IT ON PAPER FOR YOURSELF!
Good luck - and let everyone know how you made out! :o)

Moof, I love you dearly, but you know, I really hate that sort of puzzle because my brain doesn’t work that way and it makes me feel moronic. I know I wasn’t supposed to reply but, always the rebel, I did anyway.
Cheers, Ian
September 14th, 2006 at 3:39 pm
Ian! Sorry to disappoint you, but this time you’re a rebel without a cause, my dear! ;o)
Of course you were supposed to reply! Even if you didn’t try it out, you’re still letting us know how you made out! I have a feeling that you’re going to have a lot of company! *LOL*
I’m going to put more stereograms up in a bit …
September 14th, 2006 at 4:19 pm
Moof, you already know I can’t do this. I’am puzzle stupid. I just can make no sense whatsoever of them. And now, you are going to put up more of those things that made me nuts when you had them all up before?
I have decided I will retrain my brain, to see what you see inside all those lines and whatever. I will study it until I either find what is hidden there or they come and haul me off..BRING IT ON!
Has anyone else said anything about your blog having some kind of nervous attacks? I swear to God, every time I come here, after a bit, your whole site starts uncontrollable shaking. If I’am in the middle of commenting, I have to stop and wait for the fits to stop. Is that just me it is happening with? It never happens on other blog so i was just wondering about it.
September 14th, 2006 at 4:23 pm
oh man! i of course attempted this at the end of the day, maybe tomorrow morning with fresh eyes and a cup of coffee and i can break the code!!!
September 14th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
Cathy … the BRING IT ON! sounds a lot like “famous last words!” *LOL* Seriously though, I think it’s because you’re trying too hard!!! You need to relax to make it happen, if you’re talking about the stereograms! ;o)
About the blog shaking … whoa! What is it, I wonder? Epilepsy? Malaria?? DT’s??? Seriously now … if someone else is seeing this, I’d really really like to know. If my poor blog is trying to keep me in the dark about some awful medical condition it has, I need to know!
Cathy … could you please tell me if your mouse is sitting on a link, or a button … or in anyplace particular when that happens? Is it only when you’re writing comments? Any details would help greatly! Thanks!

Kt! Get some sleep, dear heart - and let me know how you make out when you’re more rested! You’ve already got plenty on your mind … {{{ hugs! }}}
September 14th, 2006 at 8:06 pm
cathy …me too. to all of the above …puzzle stupid and shaking blogs
September 14th, 2006 at 9:45 pm
Woot! There is another solution to your puzzle :) Same idea though.
Don’t mind me, I’m wierd.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:09 pm
What do you mean you don’t like my fire-engine red camps! I quite like them myself. You can have the lake. I’ve got the ibuprofen, the Jim Beam, and the Moxie, so there… *grin*
September 14th, 2006 at 10:38 pm
OMG, I can’t get this thing.
Gonna keep trying.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:40 pm
The solution is so tricky.
I didn’t think of it.
But now that I see it,
the solution makes perfect sense.
Darn, conflab brain-teaser thingy….

Dr. Anon. beat me to this one. I’d love to paint the entire house bright red, including the roof and a path of red bricks. Well, I’ve painted a bed room dark maroon in the past. All the green is beautiful, as is the blue lake - but don’t the two colors bore one at times?

Hullo! Thank you for your visit to Inheritance and your kind comment. Thank you for putting Inheritance on your blog roll. That’s a great honour!
Thanks for the blog refs. Cat Scan man - I visited that a couple of days ago. He had discovered my blog (Cuckoo’s Call) and added it to his roll.
I’m delighted to discover your blog and look forward to learning from your posts and archive.
I am currently doing a series of Sufi dog tales on Cuckoo’s Call. Invite you to visit! Best, rama

lol Moof! hahahahaha…now I’m the second moron here. I’m a rebel without BEcause! Know what? I thought you were telling us a story..lol It’s part of solving the puzzle. I believe there for once.
Anyway, red shoos demons, so your lake will be protected. :)

OK, this thing makes me feel a little clueless. Then again, puzzles that require any sort of logical thought are not my forte! Hehheh…

Dearest Moof,
It’s been a very long time again. I am recently preparing to sit for a licence exam which is drawing very near already, time is running out, but there are still piles of books and pages to flip through. Wish me good luck :) Today when I read your page, I really appreciate it! And moreover, I love your recommended songs in the lower left. You raise me Up, that’s my favorite too, and there are more. I’m still keeping your page open to click the songs one by one to relax myself and enjoy and give thanks. Moof, you are so much a wonderful lady, I like you very much. I wish I had more time to read all that you write and share.
Remain yours,
Ingrid.

Pk … alright girl, you know you’ve got to help me figure out the shaking blog thing … please let me know more about that, okies? Thankee!
—
Amka … dying for you to tell me what it is!!! :o)
—
Dr. Anon … thou art a meany!!! The least you can do is gimme some of those ibuprofens with nice big tall moxie and Jim Beam … *LOL*
I wondered if the “Blogaholic’s Anonymous Meeting” was where I lost my bottle of Jim Beam …
—
Deb … I love all of the puzzles you put on your site. This time, you were my “inspiration” … >;o)
—
Dr. Engel, I love you to absolute little bitty bits, but I’ll never let you paint my house! *LOL*
—
Rama! Welcome to my blog, and thank you for leaving a comment! I was delighted to run across your blog yesterday, and you can count on my visits! :o)
—
Ipanema … your comment made me laugh! I looked back at my post and realized that I wasn’t very specific! *LOL*
Ooooh my bad …
—
Pattie … if I remember, my brothers and I labored over that puzzle for a very, very long time (envision seasons passing by … *blink!*) … one of us finally “got it” … and gave very broad hints to the rest of us. So … don’t feel alone! (And no, I wasn’t the one who “got it” without the broad hints! ;o)
—
Ingrid! So good to see you! I’m sorry that your comment was caught in my spam filter.
About your licensing exam - you can count on my very very best wishes! I’m certain that you’ll do very well! Is that the last thing you need to do before you can practice medicine on your own? I wonder if the education system in Beijing is set up the same as it is here in the states …
Get through the school stuff, and then you’ll have a bit more time to blog. I love the pictures on your blog - you have such a nice family! Be well!
September 15th, 2006 at 1:13 pm
Moof: If you would believe me as one without conceit, let me tell you I solved it in about 20 seconds…just luck perhaps…
September 15th, 2006 at 2:00 pm
i did much better today, but i am drinking a fresh woodchuck cider and it may have done the trick!
September 15th, 2006 at 5:16 pm
Arunn, I frequent your blog - Nonoscience - and I believe you - completely - that you only took about 20 seconds. Often I get headaches just reading some of your posts! *LOL*
If I ever run across a really gnarly science/math/thermodynamics problem again … I will know who to take it to! :o)
—
Kt … you are definitely in a minority. You, Amka and Arunn should start a “genius” blog together! ;o)
Hmmm … Woodchuck Cider, eh? I may try some of that after all. Isn’t that Dr. Anon’s poison of choice lately? (he’s holding my Jim Beam and Moxie hostage … *blink!*)
September 15th, 2006 at 11:37 pm
Moof, I’m sure it is not my mouse causing the convulsions that happen here sometimes. I do lean over to read on here. My eyesite is not that great. I thought maybe my boobs were hitting a button on the keyboard, when I would lean up and bend forward. Nope, I have disqualified that one as well.
I don’t know what it is Moof, but it isn’t happening right now. I’ll pay more attention when it does it again and let you know.
September 16th, 2006 at 1:15 am
I have another solution. I fenced in all the red roofs so they can’t go anywhere, they are going to starve to death! And the green roofs, for their lack of cooperation and compromise, will have to do a lot of walking. It will wear them down and they will beg for their neighbours back. No Win/Win Solution this!
September 16th, 2006 at 8:52 am
Ah Moof, now I know what Cathy meant by ’shaking’. It happens when the page is still loading. What I do is to let it settle before I type. And you know I’m using IE, so when I open your blog, right sidebar is overlapping the posts (centre part). It slowly goes to its right place while loading. This is when we ‘feel’ tremors. :)
September 16th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
Cathy - I type with my boobs too … raised the dickens with my spelling though! >;o)
—
Ohhhh Borneo Breezes! You’re forcing a compromise! Ack! However - that sounds like the perfect way for both sides to lose weight, eh? *LOL*
—
Ipanema … that makes sense! This theme has what you call a “fluid” width … it’s different on each person’s computer, depending on the resolution of their desktop. It’s made to just take up the width of the screen in percentages, rather than by setting a certain number as a width. IE is notorious for not being able to handle blogs - or anything which is created with CSS and PHP … it just can’t properly interpret them. I can see something like that happening as IE tries to decide the browser’s width.
I think that of you with IE will see the same sort of thing on all blogs that are fluid width, then.
Thanks Ipanema!
September 17th, 2006 at 6:26 am
No worries Moof. I know it’s from my browser and now additional info is ‘fluid’ width and resolutions. Thanks. :)
September 17th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
moof!
i sooooo lonved this puzzle!!!!!
more more and more!!! :)
i kinda had the idea in my head how to solve it, but i printed it out on paper and did it to be sure.
thanks for the fun!
