Dr. Hebert! Thank you for visiting ... and for your kind words.

Yes, I'm sure that you're right, regarding those who are facing serious losses. What we're experiencing is nothing like what you've seen - and survived.

Although I've seen one other serious flood here, this one is the worst in many decades. The area is riddled with rivers and streams, and many people have found themselves trapped in low laying areas. We heard a police report this morning saying that the residents of Somersworth were not able to find a way into Berwick (where I live.)

My husband has been gone for several hours on a daylight search for a route to work tonight ... 40 minutes away. One of the towns (Newmarket) between us and his place of work was reported to be completely inaccessible.

All of this pales in comparison to what you experienced less than a year ago.

Thank you for your encouragement!

Moof,

You were the one who once wrote to me that Hurricane Katrina could happen to any of us. Well, what's going on up there isn't exactly Katrina, but but it's close enough for those facing damage to their homes and livelihoods. I have a definite sympathy for anyone facing rising waters.

Just remember, life goes on -- it really does.

Moof,
I'm in East Greenwich, which is right in the middle of the state. It's half way between Providence and Newport. There is no danger of flooding where I live. I think the flooded areas are mostly confined to the northern end of the state and to Cranston, just a few towns over from me.

I saw this on the news this evening. I immediately thought of you and said a prayer.

Things are always so sketchy on the national news. Thanks for the info.

I'm so glad you are on high ground.

Stay home.

later...

Yo Sarah! Yes, I intend to stay inside. I heard from one of the church ladies ... Dover downtown is closed off. They really think that the building next to the Cocheco river, across from Dr. Karelitz' office, (used to have a little Mediterranean restaurant in it) is going to head down stream. If it does, it will take that smaller bridge just downriver with it. We're not sure we could even get over to NH right now. Also found out that it wouldn't do much good to head NE into Maine (like up to Sanford) either, since they're evacuation some people near the river there, too. It's the river we cross each time we go to church while we're up at camp ...

Dr. Scan Man, my friend ... I wish we could send you some cooler temps and some of our water ... maybe we could each share what we have too much of ... *sigh* ... would that be nice ... !

Pattie ... how are things where you are? I've mostly hung around in Newport and Woonsocket, and I don't know the other areas as well. Are you in danger of flooding where you are?

Stay high .... stay dry!

Moof, Stay safe.
My brother lives near the Saco River. They are a little worried about being flooded out.
My uncle who lives here in RI had to leave his home, too...flooded by the Pawtuxet River. I want to see a little sun now...anytime soon would be good.
Take good care up there...you'll be in my thoughts.
