There’s no place like … the Dark Side of the Moon?
Dr. IBear has the most amazing post …
He says that “[...] legend has it, Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz, when played together have very eerie synchronizations, or at the very least coincidences [...]”
Now, c’mon! How likely does that seem? An old classic movie … meshed with Pink Floyd’s 70’s “acid-rock”? My first reaction was that, surely, Dr. IBear must be kidding … or at least mistaken! What on earth could Dorothy, Toto and a bunch of Munchkins have in common with with some of the most emotively provocative music of the last 30+ years?
Well, here are just a few of the things which Dr. IBear lists …
In the beginning of the movie during the song “Breathe”, the band sings “smiles you’ll laugh” and you see the Lion and the Tinman in human form laughing “and tears you’ll cry” shows the Scarecrow crying.
When the band sings “kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town” from the song “Time”, Toto hops out of Mrs. Gultches basket and runs back to the farm.
In the song “Us and Them” right when the word “Black” is said, they show the wicked witch and when the word “Blue”is said, they show Dorothy in her blue dress.
The Good witch of the north confronts the wicked witch of the west as the band sings “and who knows which is which” (or would that be “witch is witch”?) from the song “Us and Them”.
The coolest part of the whole thing though is the tornado scene. “The Great Gig in the Sky” is the perfect song to the perfect scene. They bind together seamlessly. As glass and debris are flying and Dorothy is being blown around, the vocal screams are in perfect synchronization with the movie.
About three and a half minutes into the song “The Great Gig in the Sky”, you hear a woman’s voice say “I never said I was frightened of Dorothy”. — Whoa!
Right as they are showing the twister for the second time and it’s well on it’s way, you hear a voice in the background saying “I am not frightened of dying, anytime will do, why should I be frightened of dying, there’s no reason for it, we’ve all got to go sometime”
Like I said … those are just a few from Dr. IBear’s list! If you’re a Pink Floyd fan - or a love Wizard of Oz trivia - this is a must-read!
I’m hoping to get my hands on a Wizard of Oz movie (if I don’t already have one hidden away someplace) and try this out this coming week. I’ll do up a post and let you know how it came out.
Again, I want to thank Dr. IBear in a huge way, because this is a lot like finding an “easter egg” … only better!

I’m trying to decide whether or not to share this with my 16 year old who is a huge Pink Floyd fan.
I may be listening to the details for the next week if I do (grin)

Hi Moof,
Wow, how fun! Reminds me of how we used to play albums backwards to get the hidden meaning!
We have the Wizard of Oz movie. It is available on DVD. Let us know if this really works!

I can’t wait to hear how the experiment goes!

I’ve heard of this before (maybe at Snopes ?). How do you get the timing right as to when the song starts?

How do you get the timing right as to when the song starts?
I was wondering the same thing.
I’ve only watched the Wizard of Oz on television…
the commercials could cause some problems with timing.
later…

T.J. what ever you do..never play ZZ Top backwards………lol.
I find it hard to believe that there are hidden messages to be found playing an album in reverse.

Whoops! Y’all got seriously ahead of me in the comments! I spent Sunday struggling with my printer … and with a recalcitrant eBook which refused to print out in the right color … and dealing with emails.
PK … go for it! He’d never forgive you if you don’t! LOL!
Pattie … my son is busy acquiring what I’ll need for the experiment. He told me that he may be able to actually put the two together on one CD … kool, eh? ;o)
Dr. IBear - you and I both. My son’s even fired up about it, and he’s not even a PK fan. If he actually gets that CD made, ya want a copy?
Hey Amie and TJ … click on the link in the post and take a look at Dr. IBear’s post … his explains exactly when to start the music.
William … tell us! What happens when you play ZZ Tops backward? I’ve never heard that one!

It really does work out good when you play the two together!! lol My husband and I have done it many times. The trick is to start the Dark side of the Moon song just as the Lion roars the 3rd time on the movie. Make sure you have the song on repeat. Yah, guess you can’t tell we’ve done it a few times!! lol
Found you from my cousin Amie’s site!!
