The Doctor Is In » Apollyon Appears-IIIThe Core

“At its heart, Islam is a faith of weakness wrapped in the armor of a warrior. Its god Allah is incapable of winning victory or changing hearts except by the murder, warfare, subjugation, and coercion of his followers. Who needs such a God when man is fully capable of such deeds without Him? For to convert a man through threat of death is to fail utterly to change a man’s heart. To enforce morals through coercion is not to create moral men or righteous societies, but fearful men and tyrannical rule, strapped by rigid legalism, and fear, and the slavery of hatred which crushes rather than renews the spirit of man.”

Dr. Bob of the Doctor is In has posted a third segment of Apollyon Appears. The clarity and depth are what we’ve all come to expect of him. Dr. Bob has an uncommon grasp of Islam’s threat to the west.

This blogger thinks the good doctor should publish his works … and make them more widely available …

    Hi Moof,

Yeah I read it, and it depressed me.

Bob writes very well. He makes terrific arguments. I just get real nervous arguing about religion.

BTW, Moof, you should know that I am a believer, a moderately-observant Jew. I’m also pro-life.

I just worry about the trend of folks getting more bold about arguing religions with Muslims.

It makes me think of polemics that in the past were written against Jews, and with Christians for that matter. Oftentimes it didn’t end up well for us.

As a non-Christian, I’m trying really really hard to love people who want to kill me because I’m Jewish.

I’d prefer to support my country’s effort to vigorously press for democracy abroad, fight terrorism (abroad, thanks), and pay my taxes.

    best,

    Flea

    Shalom l’cha, Rofeh Flea …

I saw your comment when I got home from my trip up to Bangor, and I had to think about it for a while before replying.

There are several things that come to mind when I read the points you’ve made.

When your people were persecuted for their Faith and Race, it was not done because they were a danger to others. The persecution your people endured had absolutely no just reason for happening. It was, in the full sense of the word, a persecution.

What is happening with the Islamists is not the same thing. They aren’t being persecuted because of their race; neither are they being persecuted because they adhere to a faith. In fact, what’s happening here on our part is not properly even a persecution, since according to dictionary.com, a persecution is:

The act or practice of persecuting on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or beliefs that differ from those of the persecutor.

    … and that’s not what’s going on.

If the Moslems were busy in their own lives, following their faith, minding their own business, we would not be in a position to look at them defensively, and take measures to prevent them from hurting us, our children, our elderly … as it is, their actions have shown us that they are a threat against us.

And that’s not all … they are taught that they are evil if they don’t destroy others who don’t believe as they do! That, Rofeh Flea, is persecution … but it’s against us and all of the “infidels” …

If you think that we’re taking those terms, and just using them polemically, tell that to those who died in the Twin Towers … or for that matter, go talk to a few acquaintances of mine who live at the top of Mt. Olivet. You’ll get two sides of the very same issue …

Dr. Bob is not arguing religion, he’s sounding a warning shofar that a violent enemy is at our gates, and does not intend to spare even the weakest and most innocent simply because we belong to a different religion. In short, they are persecuting us. Those of your faith, those of the Christian faith, those of no faith at all. Anyone who is, in their own words, an “infidel.”

Dr. Flea … we can try to love those who want to kill us for our faith (or lack of it) … but loving them doesn’t mean that we should lay down in front of them like sacrificial lambs. I don’t think either one of us was taught, in our respective Judeo-Christian religions, to just willingly become fodder for the furnace of those who want to force us to leave our own faiths and adopt theirs - or die.

I really hope that no one wants to hurt Dr. Flea, because I think he’s too nice for that to happen to him … :(

Oh … one last thing … I’m not a conspiracy freak … but I have a real deep sense since 9/11 for the realization that if we don’t fight terrorism abroad, that we will fight terrorism within our borders … and even in our homes.
