Up In Old Town
On Thursday night, I drove north about 3 hours … and landed on my son and daughter-in-law’s doorstep just after suppertime. I parked myself on their couch … and have been there ever since.
Yes, yes … I know the old adage about fish and company … after three days they both start to stink!
But … but … but …
Well, believe it or not, they don’t want me to leave …
Yes, yes … I know … they could very well be too polite to admit that the lump which seems to have taken over their sofa appears to be a semi-permanent fixation …
But … but … but …
Well, it appears that at home, in Berwick, they lost power sometime on Friday afternoon … and as far as I know, they still don’t have it back. It’s in the single numbers down there (as it is up here,) but down home - there’s no heat, no lights, no water … no … well, you get the idea.
I think I’m just lucky that I have my sweet Sarah and Daein … so that I don’t have to drive back down to Berwick right away and turn into a Moof-sickle! *blink*
They’re going to let me cook for them tonight. This is definitely a noodly visit …
We went the Chocolate Grill in Old Town on the first night … the food there is unforgettable. Daein and I each had a Creamy Smoked Gouda pasta plate, with proscuito and asparagus. It was absolutely delicious. Sarah had such a big piece of haddock that I was amazed when I saw her eat the whole thing! I have no idea how she got it all into that little stomach of hers.
Yesterday, Sarah made a pasta dish at home (hey! She’s Italian - Vitelli! :) and it was wonderful! It had olives, and capers, and all sorts of wonderful little goodies in it, and had just enough heat to let me know I was alive! She’s one heck of a great cook. By the time Daein is my age, he’s going to be a rotund little dude, methinks. I know that if I stay here too long, there’ll look like there’s at least two of me … 0.o
And tonight, I’m going to make yet another pasta dish … Pansit. A dear cousin taught me how to do it many decades ago. Still one of my favorites. It uses noodles, bacon, tons of fresh veggies (whatever’s handy, but certainly olives, onions, sweet peppers, etc.) If anyone’s interested in the recipe … let me know.
You know you’re talking to a Moof when you ask them how their trip went, and they reply with a long list of everything they ate! For Moofs, it’s all about food. That’s why having a son who’s a chef is so nice … :-)
I’ll post again when I get back home … if there’s power yet … *sigh*
