Is Anyone Else Getting This Sort of Comment Spam?
I’m getting about 30 0f these a day. I’d really hate to have to turn off the comments for all but the most recent posts … :(
Anyone have any suggestions?

I get lots of junk like that, plus other styles of comment spam. I solved it by adding a “review and approve” feature (aka comment moderation) to my home-grown blogging system.
The blogger.com home page says they’ve added comment moderation. That’s more work than simply posting all comments, but it’s better than advertising spam on your blog.

It’s those darn bots Moof.
I quit getting the comment spam when I turned on the comment verification feature.
I currently have my comments being ‘reviewed’ first before I allow them to comment.

Hey Dale! Good to see you! Thanks for dropping in. I’m waiting for you to *cough* update *cough cough* your blog. You’ve got some very interesting posts in there … but I can only read them so many times! ;-)
By the way … we really enjoyed the songs you wrote. That one with the “catchy tune” … I still laugh every time I think about it.
I sincerely hope that you’re managing to keep armed strangers from taking you on joyrides in your own car now that you’re back over there on the west coast … 0.o
Word Press has the Review and Approve/Mark as Spam, etc., feature too … so it’s not hitting my posts, but it’s becoming a serious pain in the posterior to deal with.
TJ … I used to do that on Blogspot too … it’s not quite the same with Word Press. It looks like I could only have people who have subscribed leave comments, but I really don’t want to do that.
This and Concordia Discors are the only places the spam is hitting, so I don’t know where they’re getting the blog addresses from. Probably each other’s blog rolls …

I really get very few bot crawlers, so far it has not become a problem, I just delete the few I get.

I wondered what the verification feature was for! I was advised to do it but did not know why!
Does it really prevent spam? If blogsplot offers it, I’d take them up!

Flea

Hey William! Hang in there … it’ll come … a month ago I was only getting few every couple days … it’s built up to over 30 a day now, and I think that’s conservative. I’ll let them build up for a full day (today) and see how many I end up with.
And Dr. Flea! Love this morning’s post, by the way. I’ll be over in your direction to drop a comment soon. How are you feeling?
Yes, the verification feature does help discourage spam … the only thing I don’t recommend is the option that only those with Blogspot accounts can leave a comment, because that will cause people with blog accounts elsewhere to not leave you with their actual blogsite.

Dang.
I didn’t know that.

Thank you, Moof,
I was really quite sick, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to lie in bed all day Saturday. Today I’m almost back to 100%, just in time to pull on the snowpants and dig my car out for tomorrow’s commute.
best,
Flea
